  2.                 Review: Gasteiner Hard Drive

  5. Wow! This one's small.  Gasteiner  have  now released a hard
  6. drive that can hold up to 525Mb of information all in a very
  7. (and I mean  VERY)  small  unit.  Your  first impressions on
  8. seeing this drive are good  ones.  It  looks very smart, and
  9. looks very small -  brilliant  if  you  don't have much desk
  10. space.

  12. This hard drive from Gasteiner comes  with a host adaptor to
  13. connect it to your  ST,  and  the  drive itself is formatted
  14. with the hard driver software already  on it. On the back of
  15. the drive you can see a fan, the power supply socket and two
  16. SCSI ports (one for  daisy  chaining  hard drives together).
  17. How Gasteiner managed to  cram  all  this  into such a small
  18. area is beyond me. Needless  to  say,  there was no room for
  19. the power switch at the back - it  had to go at the front! A
  20. good thing. The power LED doubles as a drive activity LED as
  21. well, probably because there was no  room to put two LEDs in
  22. the drive!!

  24. The software the drive comes with is a little bleak, though.
  25. The GE-Soft  formatting  program  could  be  a  lot  better,
  26. although its free with  the  drive,  I  suppose. There's not
  27. really that much to say apart  from  it's good. Oh yes - and
  28. that it is available in  any  configuration  from 52Mb up to
  29. 525Mb. Ring Gasteiner to get your configuration!
